Darren Taylor-Ridge is the director of global operational excellence for Colson Group. He joined the company in April 2015 and is responsible for providing support to the U.K. production team, as well as global projects in North America and Asia to drive quality, health, safety, environment and customer service improvements. Taylor-Ridge will be based in Colson Group's China operations and spend time at the Saint Joseph, Michigan distribution center.

Voordat hij bij Colson in dienst trad, diende hij 14 jaar bij de luchtlandingsinfanterie van de strijdkrachten en zes jaar bij de legerreserve. Darren Taylor-Ridge earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Manchester Metropolitan University in the U.K. and a Master of Science degree in occupational safety and health technology from the University of Birmingham in the U.K. as well as five higher national degrees in health and safety, management, lean manufacturing techniques, teaching and currently is completing a higher national degree in human resources.

Vraag: Wat zijn enkele van de doelstellingen op korte termijn die u hoopt te verwezenlijken als directeur Global Operational Excellence?

A: I am focusing on working with the team to identify immediate action we can take to close the gaps between existing skills and knowledge to increase the right first-time capability. With this, we will identify where each team member excels and ensure they're working in an area that highlights their strengths.

Vraag: Welke operationele best practices uit uw uitgebreide ervaring hoopt u bij Colson Group toe te passen?

A: I hope my skills and abilities as a team builder will assist in assuring the business' long-term position by enabling teams to become highly competitive and efficient. It's not the leading of teams that's important, it's giving guidance that helps teams to realize just how much potential they have.

Veiligheid ligt mij na aan het hart. Ik heb het geluk gehad om zowel de slechtste als de beste veiligheidsnormen in de praktijk te zien. Goede veiligheidspraktijken, milieuvriendelijke werkwijzen en goed kwaliteitsbeheer dragen allemaal bij aan het opbouwen van een goede reputatie, en die reputatie zorgt ervoor dat ons product wordt verkocht. Het zijn juist deze werkwijzen die ik hoop te ontwikkelen samen met alle teams waarmee ik werk.

Onze markten zijn zeer competitief en onze marktpositie zal worden bepaald door onze capaciteiten. Door een goede toepassing van lean-productietechnieken ter verbetering van onze operationele efficiëntie – bijvoorbeeld op het gebied van TLE, tijdige levering en het terugdringen van verliezen en defecten – zullen we groei en een toekomst op de lange termijn veiligstellen.

V: Wat is hetgeen in je carrière waar je het meest trots op bent?

A: Ik ben het meest trots op het feit dat ik mijn land heb gediend en operationeel heb samengewerkt met Amerikaanse troepen. Dit heeft me veel over mezelf geleerd en me inzicht gegeven in hoe ik het beste in mensen naar boven kan halen, zelfs onder de moeilijkste omstandigheden.
